Embracing nature's beauty, fostering community, and kindling the spirit of adventure, our camping journey at Lake Kumeyaay was a testament to the transformative power of shared experiences under the open sky

Embarking on our first camping excursion at Lake Kumeyaay was a journey filled with excitement, learning, and a deep sense of community. The intent behind this camping event was not only to test our camping skills but also to extend an invitation to others who share a love for camping or those curious about the outdoors. It was about normalizing the presence of Black individuals in outdoor spaces and fostering a sense of belonging for all.

As we gathered around the campfire, surrounded by the serene beauty of Lake Kumeyaay, we realized that this experience would be more than just a leisurely weekend getaway. It would be an opportunity for growth and discovery.

The learning curve was steep, but the lessons were invaluable. While we came prepared with the essentials, such as tents, sleeping bags, and cooking equipment, we quickly learned that camping in cooler temperatures requires additional preparation. With overnight temperatures dropping to the low to mid 40 degrees Fahrenheit, staying warm became a top priority. We discovered the importance of insulated sleeping pads, layers of clothing, and proper insulation for our tents to keep the chill at bay.

Beyond the practical skills gained, the camaraderie forged during our time at Lake Kumeyaay was immeasurable. Sharing stories, laughter, and meals under the open sky strengthened our bonds and created lasting memories.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to connect with nature and each other, we reflect on the lessons learned and the moments shared. As we look forward to future camping adventures, we extend an open invitation to others to join us on this journey of exploration and community-building.

Our first camping event at Lake Kumeyaay was not just about pitching tents and building fires; it was about embracing the beauty of the outdoors, learning from each other, and celebrating the joy of being together in nature. As we continue to plan for future camping trips, we invite all who are curious, adventurous, and eager to connect with nature and community to join us. Together, let us embark on new adventures and create memories that will last a lifetime.
