Propagation is more than growing plants—it’s a lesson in patience, a practice in hope, and a reminder that small beginnings can thrive.
The June Bantaba was a lush, green gathering filled with learning, creativity, and the joy of nurturing new life! Led by the knowledgeable Vee Brooks of Enlightened Opportunities, attendees dove into the world of indoor plant propagation—a practice that’s equal parts science and patience.
Designing Starter Vases & Choosing Clippings
The session kicked off with attendees designing their own starter vases for plant clippings. Vee emphasized the importance of selecting the right vessel—whether a sleek glass jar, a repurposed bottle, or a decorative pot—to encourage healthy root growth while adding a personal touch to the process.
The Basics of Propagation
Vee walked the group through the fundamentals of propagating from existing plants, covering:
-
Where to cut (just below a node for optimal root growth).
-
Which plants propagate easily (like pothos, spider plants, and philodendrons).
-
The role of water vs. soil propagation and when to use each method.
Root Care & DIY Root Stimulator
One of the highlights was learning how to clean and care for roots during the propagation process. Vee shared a simple DIY root stimulator recipe using natural ingredients like aloe vera gel and cinnamon to encourage strong, healthy root development without harsh chemicals.
The Benefits of Indoor Plants
Beyond aesthetics, Vee discussed the many benefits of indoor plants, including:
-
Improved air quality (natural air purifiers!).
-
Boosted mood and productivity.
-
A deeper connection to nature in our daily lives.
Patience & Learning from Failure
Perhaps the most valuable lesson was the reminder that not every cutting will thrive—and that’s okay! Vee encouraged everyone to see each attempt as a learning opportunity, reinforcing that gardening (like life) is about persistence, observation, and growth.
Final Thoughts
The June Bantaba was a beautiful reminder of how small acts of care—like nurturing a plant—can bring joy, mindfulness, and a sense of accomplishment. A huge thank you to Vee Brooks for guiding us through this enriching experience, and to all the attendees who brought their curiosity and creativity!
