Full Snow Moon Hike
February 1 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Free
Continue your year of lunar adventures with us under the Full Snow Moon. Traditionally, this name reflects February’s deep, nourishing snows—a promise of spring water to come. We’ll hike the familiar switchbacks of Cowles as the winter dusk settles, our breath visible in the cool air, reaching the summit just as this brilliant moon crests the eastern horizon. Witness the city lights and the moon’s glow reflecting off distant clouds. It’s a magical, crisp start to our monthly series. Dress in warm layers, bring a headlamp, and join us for a serene winter night climb.
What to Bring & Know:
To ensure a safe and enjoyable hike under the moon, please come prepared. The trail will be dark on our descent, and conditions can change quickly.
- Essential Lighting: A headlamp or flashlight with fresh batteries is mandatory for the hike down.
- Proper Footwear: Sturdy hiking shoes or boots with good traction are required for the rocky and sometimes slippery trail.
- Layered Clothing: Temperatures can drop significantly. Dress in moisture-wicking layers you can add or remove, and consider a windproof or insulated jacket for the summit.
- Hydration & Snacks: Bring plenty of water and a light snack or energy bar to enjoy at the top.
- Recommended Gear: Trekking or hiking poles are highly recommended for added stability, especially on the descent.
- Optional Extras: Consider a small backpack, a fully charged phone, and a camera to capture the view.
