Full Pink Moon Hike
April 1 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
Don’t be fooled—hike with us under the delightful Full Pink Moon! Its charming name doesn’t come from its color, but from the vibrant pink blooms of wild creeping phlox, one of spring’s earliest heralds. We’ll climb Cowles Mountain as the blue hour descends, with the scent of sage and chaparral in the air. The summit rewards us with a panoramic view of the city awakening to evening, framed by the rising of this sweetly-named moon. A light layer, sturdy shoes, and a headlamp are all you need for this perfect spring escape.
What to Bring & Know:
To ensure a safe and enjoyable hike under the moon, please come prepared. The trail will be dark on our descent, and conditions can change quickly.
- Essential Lighting: A headlamp or flashlight with fresh batteries is mandatory for the hike down.
- Proper Footwear: Sturdy hiking shoes or boots with good traction are required for the rocky and sometimes slippery trail.
- Layered Clothing: Temperatures can drop significantly. Dress in moisture-wicking layers you can add or remove, and consider a windproof or insulated jacket for the summit.
- Hydration & Snacks: Bring plenty of water and a light snack or energy bar to enjoy at the top.
- Recommended Gear: Trekking or hiking poles are highly recommended for added stability, especially on the descent.
- Optional Extras: Consider a small backpack, a fully charged phone, and a camera to capture the view.
