Full Worm Moon Hike
March 3 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Free
Feel the earth waking up under the light of the Full Worm Moon. This name celebrates the softening soil and the reappearance of earthworm casts—the first quiet invitations to spring robins. We’ll ascend Cowles Mountain in the gentle evening light, watching for early wildflowers and listening to the changing sounds of dusk. Reaching the summit for the moonrise offers a perfect moment to welcome the new season from San Diego’s highest point. Bring a light jacket, a headlamp, and your sense of springtime anticipation.
What to Bring & Know:
To ensure a safe and enjoyable hike under the moon, please come prepared. The trail will be dark on our descent, and conditions can change quickly.
- Essential Lighting: A headlamp or flashlight with fresh batteries is mandatory for the hike down.
- Proper Footwear: Sturdy hiking shoes or boots with good traction are required for the rocky and sometimes slippery trail.
- Layered Clothing: Temperatures can drop significantly. Dress in moisture-wicking layers you can add or remove, and consider a windproof or insulated jacket for the summit.
- Hydration & Snacks: Bring plenty of water and a light snack or energy bar to enjoy at the top.
- Recommended Gear: Trekking or hiking poles are highly recommended for added stability, especially on the descent.
- Optional Extras: Consider a small backpack, a fully charged phone, and a camera to capture the view.
